What should we do about the fiscal cliff?

Do nothing. Nobody seems to be talking about what seems to me to be the no-compromise solution. Are you ready to hear it?
Increase taxes and reduce spending.
This is what everyone who does not have an axe to grind in the system should advocate. I remember when a woman came up on stage to Mitt Romney and asked what was going to happen to the deduction that she was supposed to get for what she spends on her child's college tuition. If it was me, I would have said "Woman, that deduction is going away. You didn't earn that. All deductions are going away. We will have one straight marginal tax rate and that is it."

prohibition

The more I read about things, the less sure I become about good versus evil. There are no good and there are no evil. Everyone has their own justification.

Talking about nice hours

Phones are not answered between 11:30 AM and 1:30 PM
That's great. Your hours are from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM and you get a two hour lunch. How can I get this job?

frameworks and libraries

I remember a Posey I listened to a while back where they talked about frameworks versus libraries. Basically, a framework is something you bold your structure within and a library is something you consult when you come across some common functionality.

You can use as many libraries add you wish but choosing a framework had to be a bigger discussion.

Skills Don’t Pay the Bills

Could it be that capitalism works well until the population of available workers is significantly greater than the number of workers required to produce efficiently?

Starting over...

The following quote from Joel makes my heart sink:
the single worst strategic mistake that any software company can make [is] to rewrite the code from scratch
partly because I am so very much guilty of this habit.

Turd Polishing

Here is the definition from urban dictionary:
turd polishing The act of trying to make something hopelessly weak and unattractive appear strong and appealing. An impossible process that usually results in a larger, uglier turd.
She tried to look more attractive by getting plastic surgery, but let's face it, you can't polish a turd.

Completely wrong

The Internet seems to really love Willard Mitt Romney today. When you search for completely wrong, guess who shows up. No news is bad news.

Proprietary connectors and the future of technology

What if we had standardized charging across all cars? I guess it is asking too much when even our phones do not have a standard charging but I can still dream. I for one, believe that Tesla should lead the pack as far as open, standardized charging and open up its charging stations to its competitors. Let's do this for a better tomorrow, Tesla!

Whose estimates?

John Gruber puts it best when he writes "Whose estimates?" Bloomberg’s headline: “Apple iPhone 5 Misses Estimates as 5 Million Units Sold”

It is pretty ridiculous to say five million phones that were sold and shipped and delivered that are in customers’ hands and wait for the kicker, in just one weekend somehow misses anyone's estimates. Maybe I ought to get into this analysts' game as well.

The US has vowed to reach the moon in the next nine years. I estimate that within the next nine years, USA will reach Mars and solve world hunger. [Nine years later in 1969] See that? They landed on the moon but they missed my estimate of reaching Mars and solving world hunger. What losers, amiriteguys?
